ChoicePoint Wins Corporate Citizenship Award

The Best The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) today announced on November 8 that Atlanta based ChoicePoint has won a Corporate Citizenship Award in the category of Corporate Stewardship, Small/Midsize Business. The award was presented at a dinner at the National Building Museum.

"Small and midsized companies across the U.S. often don't get the recognition they deserve for the positive impact they have on our society," said BCLC Executive Director Stephen Jordan. "ChoicePoint is a great example of this because it successfully applies its business acumen to help protect one of our nation's most valuable assets - our children."

ChoicePoint, a provider of identification and credential verification services to businesses and federal, state, and local government agencies, donates millions of dollars worth of free and deeply discounted background screening services for volunteers working with children to nonprofit partners. The company also works with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to find missing children and supports the Identity Theft Resource Center. After Hurricane Katrina, ChoicePoint supported identity verification for Katrina victims to enable quick financial help.

"ChoicePoint is honored to be recognized by the Business Civic Leadership Center for our efforts in the positive use of information," said Derek V. Smith, chairman and CEO of ChoicePoint. "On behalf of my colleagues at ChoicePoint, we acknowledge our nonprofit partners whose efforts every day inspire us to find new and better ways to better serve the nonprofit communities and protect our most vulnerable populations."

A distinguished panel of corporate citizenship experts, chaired by Harvard Business professor Michael Porter, selected ChoicePoint as the award winner. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue presented the award at a dinner and celebration on November 7, 2007 in Washington, D.C. Other finalists in the Corporate Stewardship, Small/Midsize Business category were Banco Popular, Greyston Bakery, PAETEC and Symetra Financial.
