ChoicePoint: Caring Culture Thrives

Marco Piovesan Marco Piovesan, ChoicePoint's Vice-President of International and Marketing for the Screening and Authentication Services Group, likes working for a company that tries hard to do the right thing. "At the end of the day," said Piovesan, "it's not just about the job at hand, but it is about making the world an improved place. ChoicePoint is that kind of company in that both its business model and its dedication to community blend to positively contribute to society."

According to independent research firm Gartner, ChoicePoint has transformed itself into a role model for data security. This transformation involved a lot of work on the part of the Alpharetta-based company but, through it all, ChoicePoint quietly remained a company that cared. For example:

  • ChoicePoint was a founding member and supporter of the Georgia Innocence Project, which makes use of DNA evidence to free wrongly convicted prisoners.
  • The American Red Cross recently presented ChoicePoint with its Circle of Humanitarians Award for donating $1 million worth of technology and services after Hurricane Katrina.
  • The ADAM program, a technology service of ChoicePoint in cooperation with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, continues to play a critical role in the recovery of missing children across the United States. NCMEC recently acknowledged that 93 missing children have been found using ADAM since its inception in 2000 - including the recent recovery of two abducted children in St. Louis.

ChoicePoint's work as an outstanding corporate role model is embedded in the company via a program called ChoicePoint Cares (http://www.choicepoint.com/about/cares.html), which endeavors to make the world a better place via the positive power of information.

Employees are encouraged to assist the world community and Mr. Piovesan truly exemplifies this culture of giving. In addition to supporting ChoicePoint Cares, as do all employees from the CEO down, Piovesan has been personally involved in giving through his own non-profit enterprise, Vuk'uzenzele, which means arise and act. A native of South Africa, Piovesan and Vuk'uzenzele has endeavored to assist with certain South African economic development. This work brought him into contact with the President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, at the 2002 World Economic Forum in New York. This led to Piovesan being directly praised by Mbeki in his State of the Nation address later that year.

Piovesan thrives working in the world of global financial and business services given the rapid changing trends with the opportunities and challenges that they bring. "The opportunity to utilize efficient transactional technology and processes to improve time service; convenience; availability to funds; risk mitigation and overall global economic development is an exciting place to be". Adding: "Atlanta has a great mix of well established successful companies in this space, as well as those innovative start-up companies pushing the edges of tomorrow."

Since 1997, ChoicePoint has provided businesses, government agencies and non-profit organizations with technology, software, information and marketing services, all intended to help manage economic and physical risks as well as identify business opportunities. The Company strives to build and sustain long-term relationships through always understanding its customers' needs, while responding effectively with products and services that reflect changing industry concerns and dynamics. ChoicePoint is committed to transparency in its dealings by providing consumers with free access to their personal information because the company believes consumers have a right to know what information is available about them, how that information is being used and be able to correct any errors they find (www.choicetrust.com). In addition, ChoicePoint strongly promotes the responsible use of information as a fundamental plank of its business model, including strict standards regarding the use and dissemination of personal information.
