Calvin D Johnson Happy New Year…..We Hope!

January can be such a confusing month. After all, it received its name from the Roman god Janus, a two-faced fellow, with one face looking backwards at what has been and the other looking forward towards what is yet to be. We are much the same ourselves, just getting over the holidays and trying to get back into gear, while facing a new year with new budgets and new challenges and maybe still dealing with some leftovers from the previous year.

Before we attempt to forecast what may happen in 2007, let us take a moment to recap what our industry accomplished last year. 2006 was quite a momentous year for the Transaction Processing Industry in the United States as one of the two major bank card associations completed an initial public offering of its shares and the other announced its own plans to do so. Late in the year, the second largest closed loop card network announced it would be spinning out from its parent Morgan Stanley in the summer of 2007.

The Garry Betty Foundation

Inspired by the optimism and compassion of a truly special man, The Garry Betty Foundation is committed to finding hope and saving lives by funding innovative research that targets the initial gene-level triggers of cancer. Garry passed away just a short time after he was diagnosed with cancer. True to Garry's character, he used that time to not only focus on his treatment and the needs of his family, but also on how he could use his experience to help others and further research to find a cure for this disease. His solution was to form The Garry Betty Foundation.

The mission of The Garry Betty Foundation is to fund important areas of cancer research such as the initial triggers of the disease and seeks not only a treatment, but a cure for cancer.

Recent developments in cancer research indicate that many, if not all, cancers are caused by mutations in specific genes that normally control cell growth within a given organ.

These genes are responsible for signaling pathways that regulate cell type and reproduction.
