For the past 20 years, TSYS ("TSS") has played an integral role in helping hundreds of millions of consumers to use their credit, debit, commercial, private-label, prepaid and chip cards safely and securely, through their contracts with some of the world's leading companies. Today, TSYS provides processing services for merchant acquirers and bankcard issuers, and provides related services, including point of sale, reports, statement production, customer care, and risk and debt management. The company also manages data for rewards and point programs, and for loans and grants.
A management team committed to "servant leadership" is a main reason for the company's longevity and industry-leading solutions and services. According to TSYS, servant leadership means, "we are here to serve - our clients, our shareholders, and each other - and together shape a vision everyone can own."
Ken Tye embodies this type of leadership in his role as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for TSYS. He is in charge of the Technology Services Group, which is responsible for all aspects of innovation, systems development and operations. A majority-owned subsidiary of Georgia-based Synovus®, TSYS is publicly held and traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
Tye's longevity with the company - more than 33 years - has allowed him to shape many aspects of its services and ethos. Perhaps Tye's greatest accomplishment to date was leading the 200-person team responsible for building TS2®, one of the industry's most technologically advanced payments processing system, which was developed in the mid-1990s.
Beyond working with TSYS, Tye has held numerous leadership positions throughout the Synovus Financial Corp. family of companies. He began in 1971 with Columbus Bank and Trust Company (CB&T), serving as an assistant computer operator in the Data Processing division. Prior roles at TSYS include: assistant systems officer, assistant vice president and systems officer, vice president and systems officer, senior vice president, director of management information systems and executive vice president.
In 1971, Tye earned a degree in data processing from the Columbus Technical Institute. He has also been involved in industry leadership groups, including serving as a past vice president of the Data Processing Management Association, the Columbus Area Vocational Technical School Board, the Columbus State University Advisory Board, the MasterCard Technical Advisory Group and the Visa Development Advisory Committee.
